17th-century microscope blended with a glowing DNA helix
The Leeuwenhoek Lab — Amsterdam

Reigniting the Dutch Legacy of Discovery.

Reclaiming the Dutch Golden Age of Microbiology for 21st-Century STEM

The Biological Blindspot

350 years after Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, microbiology is still missing from the classroom.

In 1676, a Delft draper revealed an entire living world inside a drop of water. Today, students learn about atoms and gravity — but rarely the microbes that keep them alive. The Leeuwenhoek Lab exists to close that gap, with hands-on science rooted in the Dutch tradition of curious, careful observation.

The Three Facets

One mission, three ways to make the invisible visible.

Micro-Discovery Workshops

Hands-on sessions where kids and adults use real microscopes to find life in everyday samples.

Gut Health Seminars

Evidence-based talks on the human microbiome, fermentation, and the science of feeling well.

Specialized STEM Kits

Curated tools — microscopes, fermentation jars, observation journals — that turn homes into labs.
